How many times have you made a new aquaintance, at a social event, and a conversation ensued, in which your new acquaintance proceeded to describe him/herself, in terms of what they did? Sometimes, the conversation devolves into descriptions of possessions. Curmudgeon, that I am, I often interupt and inform that I am only interested in who or what they are and ask them to please describe their 'being.'

etresoi -- I have been guilty of this myself. I have often spoken of my employer, or my job, or my recent MBA as a part of my being.

Really -- I can boil my being down to the following: I am a fun-loving, younger-than-my-age guy who is not scared to sing in public, loves to think, writes poetry, and enjoys basketball as a spectator sport, as a futile rec-league player, and as a youth coach. I enjoy the presence and advance of technology, and appreciate and embrace the open-source / free software movement. I gather information continuously, sometimes even after decisions requiring that information have been made. I am an extrovert around people I know; but introverted around people I don't. I do not appreciate politics in the American form, as it is a mockery of the men and women who made it possible. I am beginning to doubt Christian philosophy, for many of the same reasons that I detest the political process.

My boil is beginning to let off steam here, so I am going to leave it as-is. I am still trying to put together the whole of my being...
